Contrary to the prevailing image of rotten mear and weevily biscuits the Georgias sailor’s diet was a surprisingly hearty misture of beer, brandy, salt beej and pork, pease, butter, cheese, hard biscuit and the exotic sounding lobscouse, not to mention the Malaga raisins, orange, lemons, figs, dates and pumpikins which were available to ships on far-distant stations.
